Funding Rehab: Knowing Your Options

Addiction is affecting a large portion of people’s lives at the minute, but one of the things people often struggle with is knowing how to afford rehab.

There’s a common misconception that it costs thousands upon thousands of pounds and is entirely unattainable for people in some circles of society. However, that’s precisely what it is, a misconception, and many options can help people, no matter how wealthy or poor they are.

The question of ‘how much does rehab cost in the UK?’ comes up a lot, but ultimately that depends on various circumstances, including how long you’re there for and what sort of treatment a person has.

However, what’s important to note is that there are many ways in which you can potentially fund it, including:

Private Health Insurance

If you have private health insurance, one option may be to go through this. Some policies cover at least a portion of the cost and can make it much more affordable to get the help you need.

There are many private health insurers out there, you may find that the company you work for covers this for you. Explore your options and what level of coverage you have as it may cover you for inpatient or outpatient treatment, detoxification, and counseling services.

NHS Referral

It is possible to get an NHS referral. However, this tends to only be for those who are severely struggling with addiction, from which your GP or community health professional will facilitate access to NHS rehab services. This may involve community-based treatment programs, outpatient counseling, or referral to other rehab centers funded or part-funded by the NHS.

This option is a bit more limited, but it’s still something that should be explored and could get you the help you need completely free.

Employer Assistance Programmes

Employee Assistance Programmes, or EAPs as they’re commonly shortened to provide support for employees dealing with a variety of issues, including addiction. They’re put in place by your employer and can provide counseling services, referrals to rehab, and financial assistance for treatment.

If your employer has one in place, it can be worth seeing what options are available to you.

Charitable Organisations and Grants

Elsewhere, there are charitable organisations that are dedicated to supporting people in finding addiction treatment. They can offer grants, help with applying for grants, and help find financial assistance. There are many up and down the country, and they can easily be found by doing a bit of Googling.

Personal Savings and Financing

Naturally, if you have personal savings or potential financing options available, this is perhaps the easiest and quickest method to get the funds needed to go through rehab. Many rehab centers offer flexible payment plans and financing options to spread the cost over time, making it much more manageable to get the help you need.

Government Funding and Community Support

In some instances, government funding or community support programs may be available to help individuals access rehab services. Local councils, addiction treatment centers, and community organizations may provide information on available funding sources or support schemes. Explore government websites, community outreach programs, and support groups for addiction to learn about potential funding options.

Crowdfunding and Fundraising

When traditional funding sources are limited, individuals and families may turn to crowdfunding platforms or fundraising initiatives to raise funds for rehab expenses. Crowdfunding campaigns can mobilize community support and generate financial resources to cover treatment costs.
